My Little Darlings Alpaca Farm is the home to 40 beautiful huacaya alpacas. The alpacas were first purchased for a farm/land use business, but we soon discovered the treasure we had uncovered. In addition to being great farm animals, the alpacas are wonderful creatures! They are small (approx. 160 pounds and 3 feet tall) and are very unaggressive. They are safe and fun for children (and grandchildren).
We have shown our alpacas in many shows, and we continue to breed for show-ring success, but we have also learned to appreciate their wonderful wool.
The alpacas are shorn annually in the springtime, and the harvest is amazing! Each alpaca fleece is unique in characteristic and color as the animal himself.
Alpaca wool is very soft and warm and is often compared to cashmere. There are 22 natural colors of the wool ranging from bright white, to blue-black and every earthy color in between. It is also considered to be hypoallergenic and is comfortable even next to a baby's skin.
My grandchildren and I have been learning some of our lost ancestral skills. We have learned to spin, knit, crochet, weave, felt, rug-hook, and have discovered many creative uses for the wonderful alpaca wool.
We currently have several alpacas for sale. And we offer fiber workshops for those interested in learning to create "something alpaca".
Visitors are welcome. Please call or e-mail to arrange for a convenient time. We look forward to showing you around and answering any questions you may have about becoming an alpaca farmer yourself!
